(KBIT) Killed Before Its Time / MSN.ca

February 24th, 2010 tim

Ok. You get KBIT by now. Stuff that’s dead and in need of resurrection. At this point, we can use more time to dive into the deceased, mourn its death, craft the obituary. So, a few kind words, by those team members closest to the work, should offer some insights into a budding life ended all too soon.

KBIT: Hi David… Love your work btw… So… When was the last time you remember seeing these boards… and what would you tell them if they were still around today?

DS: I guess I would say that your death was tragic. You were ripped from our lives prematurely. We loved you for your super-lo-fi approach, your abstract vision of the iconic MSN butterfly, your use of restrained CG, for your ability NOT to do a camera fly-through. Yes, you were unique.

KBIT: I really like the idea behind the construction of the brand mark from the many different physical elements in the earlier frames. It must be difficult to see so many lovely design elements, with bright futures in animation, get taken away from you at such an early age? How you do persevere?

DS: Their memory lives on in the minds of our team, our production company and the agency (Taxi, Montreal). Perhaps our collective memory will resurrect the idea and it will be reincarnated in another form, another brand, another campaign. Inshallah. Kudos to Umeric.

MSN.ca we will miss you. R.I.P. 2009.
