As if we need to say it: we’re super into media in physical spaces. We were into it before it was a trend in advertising at large, but we’re also happy that our community has embraced this type of experience as something valuable for brands – measurable ROI, an ability to create experiences about learning, information sharing, and a childlike sense of wonder.
For Hearst Media, and with architect Marc Thorpe and technical partners Flightphase, we conceived of, directed and brought this three-part Infiniti installation to life. The documentary video of the event at Pebble Beach will be released momentarily (as well as our brand new site) but for now, think gestural interactivity, haptic play, and large format projections.
Thanks to the students from BYU’s graphic design program for stopping by the studio. I hope we made the idea of life after school a little more inspiring! Thanks professors too, of course!
Thanks again to all the organizers, sponsors and attendees to the HUSH-sponsored Digital Dumbo event @ Galapagos Art Space. While our comments were brief (in favor of the open bar) we wanted to emphasize our desire to help bring together a cross-discipline digital community. I’ve never seen a better mix of talents – directors, designers, digital strategist, producers of many feathers, and even a finance guy.
We are amazed at how this event has grown. From day one Digital Dumbo has been about the community. It has been By Dumbo For Dumbo, and as our budding community has grown so has Digital Dumbo flourished. As professionals all pushing the limits of our industry, and putting in an astonishing amount of time and effort into client projects, pitches (uggh) and maintaining our own businesses, it is totally awesome how we can peel off some time and dedicate it to the idea of giving back to the place we all love, live, and work in.
Of course, in typical HUSH fashion, we shot a ton of photos and video. Lots still coming and will be disseminated over the Twitterness in the following days. For now, check the Flickr set:

In a truly epic win for DUMBO, kids, sugar-lovers and local dentists, Dewey’s candy store is now open. All manner of colorful, sugary, chocolatey goodness awaits. All in the very same building as HUSH HQ! yikes…
Aaron Draplin, always quick on the draw, snagged us finishing up our talk at AIGA Minnesota’s Design Camp. Thanks for the post Aaron. And be sure to visit his site for lots of great work as well as multiple fingers on the pulse of visual culture across the U.S. of A. www.draplin.com
We spent the day at Click 2009 – ‘Defining The Future of Digital Creativity.’ Click is Creative Review’s leading digital event, Click, has three simple aims: to inspire, educate and excite. Click provides a platform to both global award winners and niche local creative shops alike to tell the full story behind the most influential digital campaigns of 2009 and predict the trendsetters of 2010.
This was by far one of the important, and inspiring conferences I have attended this year. The room was intimate and was full of good friends, respected colleagues, a few tweeps, and luckily they are also some of the most talented minds in the digital space today. There was a seamless line between the panelists, moderator, and the audience. This was extremely conducive to an engaging, collective conversation.
Michael Lebowitz, Founder/CEO, Big Spaceship was the Master of Ceremonies and did a great job of keeping a thread between each panel and creative presentation. The discussion encompassed: Films on the internet. Interactive music videos. Creatives becoming film directors. TV on your computer. Entertainment as we know it is changing, fast. As entertainment and advertising collide. How do we as creatives, successfully bring together mediums that we thought would never mix together?
Here are a few random sound bytes, and thoughts on the day. Lars Bastholm, Chief Digital Creative Officer, Ogilvy was the voice of the Mad Men. Lars has deep understanding of the Digital Agency having put in his time at AKQA, he spoke about communication and partnerships. Tom Ajello, of POKE New York made a great case for the similarity of Weight Watchers and Dungeons & Dragons. Tom Sacchi, Co-Founder of unit9 in the UK, brought insight into how to structure a creative production house that spans the bridge between interactive and broadcast. Syrup showed the amazing work they did for Hope Act Change, and WSDIA showcased some beautiful work they did in a physical space. Jason Zada, spoke about trans-media storytelling. Vincent Morriset, director of the Arcade Fire interactive video, stunned the audience at Click NY with his beautiful work… as this was a “Digital” event, take a look at the live stream on twitter for all the tasty bits of the day, one tweet at a time.
Click wouldn’t be Click without a little audience participation. “That’s me that is,” is a panel that gives a few people in the audience the opportunity to show a little bit of what you are working on and inspire your peers. HUSH got the spotlight for a moment to present our latest mobile video release, “Big Screen” for Sony Ericsson. Check it out here. Thanks from HUSH go out to Creative Review and the ADC for this amazing and inspiring day
