Event Experience Design

Uniting Time & Space for Discord

Client

Discord

Challenge

Discord activated at over 60 events in a single year, yet the brand experience varied dramatically from one location to the next. With no unified system to guide teams into the brand experience realm, internal teams faced a binary choice: avoid overt branding and lose brand equity, or employ last-minute solutions that undermine brand consistency. While brand guidelines existed, they had never been translated into tangible, three-dimensional space nor an event-specific messaging system.

Opportunity

Design a comprehensive brand experience system — from strategic framework to production-ready playbooks — that empowers Discord teams to activate consistently across scales, from intimate 1:1 meetings to tentpole events like GDC, CES or Cannes. Create a physical and visual expression of Discord’s core purpose: a gathering space for connection across time, space and interest.

The Infinite Living Room

Discord’s power lies in creating a space for gathering — safe, familiar, non-transactional – in a way that resembles the familiarity of a living room. But Discord’s living room isn’t bounded by walls: it expands and contracts infinitely, from two friends in a voice channel to two thousand watching a stream, a living room that contains infinite living rooms within it.

The Infinite Living Room became our strategic concept, connecting human behaviors with both the brand and experience design itself. Just as living room conversations divide, subdivide, and reorganize based on how people naturally behave, the design system could remain bold and singular, or fracture and reassemble—pivoting improvisationally the way real people actually interact in both spaces and digital platforms.

An Infinite System

The principle translates into spatial and digital asset standards that all speak the same language: orientation, subdivision, reconfiguration — applicable equally to event design, campaigns, and physical space. The spatial system mirrors this principle of infinite divisibility. We designed a three-tier physical framework that maintains the same design DNA across radically different scales: tentpole event, booth and sales kit. Each tier was fully documented with annotated drawings, 3D renderings, and a permissions brief that made design intent legible to internal teams and partners. Because the system was grounded in principles of infinite divisibility and reorganization rather than fixed specifications, it remained flexible: spaces could combine, divide, and reconfigure based on how audiences naturally gathered.

Bringing It All Together

With a unified framework grounded in the Infinite Living Room, Discord has the infrastructure to activate at scale without losing its essential character. Every activation embodies the same design sensibility: arrangement that invites connection, visual systems that expand and contract infinitely, and dialogue that flows naturally between people. It positions Discord activations not as vendor booths, but as spaces where community happens, ideas are shared freely, and strangers become part of something larger.
